Community Orchard Enhancements

Help us enhance Bute Park’s new community orchards

Cardiff Council have granted permission for new community orchard planting in Bute Park. The project is being developed and led by a community group with support from the Friends of Bute Park.

The project follows a community-led campaign set up in the wake of the vandalism which occurred in September 2021, which caused thousands of pounds worth of damage.

There will be two orchard locations: a main one to the north of Blackweir playing fields, and a smaller one adjacent to the historic ‘Orchard Lawn.’

The intention is that this the smaller site, will provide the ideal location to introduce park visitors to the benefits of orchards and signpost them to the larger site.

Your donation

The project is in the development phase and the exact details will be agreed through consultation. However, initial plans propose the orchard to include a number of enhancements that will require additional funding.

Public donations made towards this aspect of the project will likely fund one or more of the following:

  • Interpretative sculpture
  • Play features
  • Interpretative artwork
