Cardiff Salad Garden are a not-for-profit social enterprise who work with disadvantaged groups and individuals from Cardiff to grow and sell fresh cut salad leaves. The team use a greenhouse within the Bute Park Nursery to grow their produce.
A range of salad leaves are grown all year round for continuous harvesting. These mixed baby leaf salads are picked to order, high quality, and unique, and are available to restaurants in Cardiff.
This truly is a sustainable business; the central location means that people can access the project without the need for a car and all salad deliveries to restaurants in Cardiff are made by bicycle.
The Salad Garden is used to run gardening sessions educating people about food and developing horticultural skills, indirectly working on confidence building, improving social skills, language and promoting positive mental health. The team works with asylum seekers, refugees and individuals with mental health problems, but also other disadvantaged groups from within the city.
