Nettles are great for many butterflies. Among them the Peacock and Red Admiral butterflies lay their eggs on nettles and once hatched, the caterpillars feed on the nutritious nettle leaves.

Stinging nettles support more than 40 kinds of insects including ladybirds. Allowing a small patch of nettles to remain in your garden will help attract insects, which in turn will attract insect eating birds and mammals.
