Coracles were used as fishing boats in the river that runs through Bute Park, named the River Taf.

The structure is made of a framework of spilt and interwoven willow rods, tied with willow bark.

The outer layer was an animal skin such as horse or bullock hide, with a thin layer of tar to waterproof it.
