Trivia
Which of these animals hibernates in winter?
You are correct.
Well done!
Hmmm... that's not right.
Fun Fact
We imagine hibernating animals to be sleeping peacefully for a few months in a cosy spot but this is not really the case. Hibernating hedgehogs enter a state of inactivity by slowing their heart rate down from 190 beats per minute to 20. They also lower their body temperature and metabolism.
Foxes live in dens called earths, which they build underground. They are mostly nocturnal and have adapted well to urban living. Foxes can gallop at 48km per hour and can jump up to two metres.
Males foxes are called ‘dog’ foxes and females are ‘vixens’.
