Masterclass for young poets in Bute Park
Bute Park is home to over 3,000 different species of trees which makes it the perfect venue to host to a free ‘Poetry and Trees’ Masterclass for young poets.
The masterclass on Saturday 3rd December will be lead by Young People’s Laureate Wales, Sophie McKeand is open to young poets aged 18 – 24. The workshop will give them the chance to share their perspectives on what trees mean to them through the medium of poetry, learning more about the art of storytelling, creative writing and performance.
Participants will also have the chance to win a £1000 grant and professional mentoring from Lyrix Organix in partnership with Woodland Trust to pave the way for the Charter for Trees, Woods and People (aka the Tree Charter) that will be launched in November 2017.
Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Bob Derbyshire, said: “This is a great opportunity for young people to develop their poetic skills and engage with the fantastic array of trees to be found in Bute Park.”
